Simon Reich created a podcast about his father, who came through the Bonegilla migrant camp near Albury / Wodonga, and this received a W3 award in the USA and a Webby Awards (International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences) runner up prize in New York. Simon, over the past 7 years, has now filmed interviews with migrants to Australia, spanning the years 1949-1961. Listening to his award-winning podcast, immerses you in an audio world of the hardships endured by war ravaged migrants and their brave pursuit of a better life in Australia. This has now been expanded to a live show involving interviews with more than 20 migrants played on various large screens around the stage, including interviewee supplied photos and videos. Live music performed by a piano and string quartet will play Simon’s composed soundtrack throughout the performance. Simon’s hope, with this presentation, is to show similarities between the recent arrivals of war-ravaged refugees and those that arrived here after World War 2. Simon is also highlighting the futility of war, as the recent Ukraine and Middle East conflicts have shown that nothing has been learnt since 1945.

As young twenty-something-year-olds, Choirboys formed in 1978, growing up on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. The wild, hedonistic lifestyle the band witnessed of the youth in the 70s is ultimately what gave birth to their seminal rock anthem, Run To Paradise. It’s all about the stories that sound all too familiar within the culture widely assumed of the music industry - “sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll” and they tell it all. Who would have thought that Run To Paradise, thirty-five years on, would ultimately have started the first chapter of a myriad of untold stories as recalled by a band that’s seen it all, heard it all, and helped in the craziness. Run To Paradise is a “spilling of the beans” of sorts. Its part story, part song that chronicles some of the wildest, most risqué, outrageous, and downright hilarious stories of Australian Rock. All, as these Oz pub-rock icons recall it. “They didn’t call it Pub Rock in those days, but we were there in the beginning and we’re still here now,” says front-man, Mark Gable. “Put it down to hearsay – it’s our opinion, it’s what we saw, it’s what people told us and most of it is extremely funny and incredibly interesting. Some of the stories are so funny and just plain stupid because back then, we could do things that nobody else could do because it wasn’t a normal job. There were no rules. Which movie star did the Divinyls bass player meet under a table at a nightclub, what were Chuck Berry’s weird work tactics, if Deep Purple was really responsible for Mark walking with a limp, and what happened to a pair of Iggy Pop’s pants? And behind the narrative are the classic songs that define the musical landscape of rock music in the ’70s and ’80s, including Deep Purple’s “Smoke On The Water”, Chuck Berry’s ‘Never Can Tell’, TMG’s ‘Jump In My Car’, Dragon’s ‘Are You Old Enough’, AC/DC’s ‘Long Way To The Top’ and of course the Choirboys hits ‘Boys will Be Boys’, ‘Never Gonna Die’, ‘Struggletown’ and the pub-rock anthem, ‘Run to Paradise’, to name a few.

Roll up, roll up! Or use a more conventional form of transport to get to the show. It’s entirely your choice. Unless you accidentally become trapped in a barrel*. Should that happen, then just find an incline and start rolling to see the one and only Ross Noble! He is the Wizard of Waffle, The Rambler Royale, The Noodlers’ Noodler, and he’s back live on stage to tour a tornado of tangents. What the show will be about is anybody’s guess, but that’s all part of the fun when you look inside his Cranium of Curiosities. *We strongly advise trying not to get trapped in a barrel before or during the performance. Despite the expression “barrel of laughs,” it may impede your enjoyment of the show and potentially anger a cooper**. **barrel maker. We are fairly certain the mascara mishap music maker Alice Cooper would be fine with it. “Thrilling to watch… weepingly funny” Daily Mail "No one does off-the-wall noodling better" - Evening Standard (4 Stars) www.alist.com.au www.rossnoble.com
